Are 'croc' shoes bad for the environment?

Posted on Apr 27, 2009 under croc shoes |

I just bought a pair of the new mary-jane crocs and I think they're cute. Alot cuter than the first ones they came out with. I really like them so far. The first day I wore them to work, a coworker of mine swears that they're bad for the environment because of the petroleum in them or something. Is this true? Can anyone send me to a website to maybe help prove/disprove her theory?

Most commercially produced things are bad for the environment. Crocs (and most shoes) are made from synthetic materials. All of these are bad for the environment. They require a lot a carbon emissions to make. But what are we going to do, all wear moccasins? Or wear recycled tire sandals? So don't worry they are no worse than a pair of Nike of Adidas sneakers.

Huh - No. That is BS. Crocs are awesome! I own three pairs of the original and a pair of flip flops! I just wish I could wear them to work… They aren't "business" though.

No offense, but crocs really are disgusting looking. Have you ever seen a croc tan? With brown spots all over your feet?

I personally don't want that to happen to me.

Yes, crocs are made from plastic. Yes, plastic comes from petrochemicals. Yes petrochemicals are harmful and by buying plastic shoes and fake leather you kill thousands more animals and do far more damage to the earth we live on than you do by wearing fur or leather. Look up plastics and petrochemicals, there's plenty out there.
